Are you based in the tri-state area or planning on attending World Cup 2011?
Consider volunteering at the event and receive free admission, a free staff jacket, and the experience of a lifetime as you meet and work with other passionate Quidditch supporters from around the country and more than 1,500 athletes from around the world.
Want to volunteer? CLICK THIS HUGE BUTTON.
Different tasks range from orienting and helping teams at the event site, refereeing or snitching in games, assisting vendors, medics, security, and other event staff, working at the headquarters booth, managing fields, crowd control, admission, video & livecast work, social media and website updating, and more. No event-organizing experience is required, and there will be training and orientation and we will do our best to assign tasks based on preferences and existing skill sets.
In addition, people who live farther away from New York or who will not be able to attend World Cup can still do volunteer work from far away. In the months leading up to the event, we will need as much help as possible promoting the event through the internet and reaching out to countless NYC schools and other local resources.
Please help us out by sharing this link with your friends!
As you may note, the form asks for recipients to list who referred them – the person with the most referrals will receive two free VIP passes for the World Cup, which include guaranteed pitchside seats and access to the VIP tent with free food and drinks.
UPDATES (8/16):
Volunteer shifts will be open for signup in September. Exact times will be posted later, but generally will run from early in the morning until late at night, starting Thursday November 10th, and running through Monday November 14 (includes time for set-up and clean-up).
The IQA is hosting a volunteer workshop on the weekend of September 10 – 11. Sign up here.
How volunteer perks work:
All on-site volunteers get to keep their World Cup 2011 Staff jacket
One shift (4 hours) = Free day pass (for either day, includes that day’s games and entertainment)
Two shifts (8 hours) = Free weekend pass (for both days including concert and entertainers)
Three shifts (12 hours) = Free weekend pass and finals matches ticket

Hi Nicole,
We email all of our volunteers on a weekly basis. You should get an email by this Friday – check back here and let us know if not!
You won’t be getting your on-site assignments until closer to the date, but we will be giving small assignments now and then that can be done online or from home to help promote the event.
Thanks for checking!

Hi Taylor Nicole,
Shifts will be 4 hours each. 1 shift gets a free day pass, 2 shifts get a free day pass and a jacket, 3 adds a weekend pass on top of that, 4 shifts gets the weekend pass and a ticket to the finals. But really, the reason you should volunteer is because it’s a fun and awesome experience. We just throw the perks on top as a small token of our thanks.
Thanks for your question!

We’ll be in touch with everyone who signed up soon!
@Cass – Unfortunately the jacket is only for people who work onsite. However, if for some reason we happen to have a few leftover, we may auction them off online at a later date and we’ll keep you updated.

Hi Katelyn,
You definitely can volunteer. Most teams will three or four games on day 1, and since there are roughly 11 hours of games, you should have anywhere from 2 – 4 hours between each game.
We would love to have your help, particularly with refereeing, since players know the rules better than anyone.
As long as you are on the signup form, you’ll get more information about everything you can do as the date approaches.

Hi Nate,
For the most part we are going to be recruiting onsite volunteers from locals, because we don’t have the resources to help outside volunteers cover accommodation costs. However, if we need to bring in additional volunteers from outside of NYC, we will do our best to connect outside volunteers with local volunteers to arrange for housing. If you can find housing on your own, you can definitely volunteer at the event. More information will be sent out to all volunteers at the end of the month.

Nat – teams are starting in Australia. Email andrea.hill@internationalquidditch.org for more information.
Ashley – if you are willing to come in and do work at the event or during setup on the days prior, we would love to have you. You can let us know when we email volunteers with assignment openings soon.
Julie – Speed, agility, creativity, and humor are all necessary for good snitching. In terms of quantitative requirements, we’d like to know what your best times are for different distances (400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 5000m), as well as anything else about your athletic background (soccer and wrestling are great). Video submission of running, climbing, and acrobatic skills is encouraged.
Alana – Yes, we have an email going out to everyone today.
Erin – It depends what you sign up for. We will have shifts open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You can do as little as one shift on one day, or as much as every shift on every day. We haven’t started signing up people for shifts yet but we will soon.

@Elvira – Yes, you can absolutely volunteer on-site. Make sure to sign up, and you will receive an email soon.
@Alecia – the final matches (semi-finals, an alumni all-star game, and finals) will most likely begin in the stadium at 6 PM and end at around 9 PM. Our league management council is still working out the schedule (it’s a big process scheduling 450 games over two days!)
@Nickie – Unfortunately the jackets are reserved for on-site workers, because we are running a tight budget and they are designed to help designate staff from the members of the public. However we really appreciate your support. Shoot me an email and we can discuss this further.
@Susanna – We usually send emails on a weekly basis but things have been pretty busy scheduling the workshop for local volunteers. We should be getting an email out to all volunteers soon. You can absolutely bring friends or family. If they want to volunteer as well, they are welcome to it.
@Kale – we are still assessing the minors situation with the island administrators and our insurance company.

Do you have to be a certain age to be a snitch and if so what age.
Also do snitches have to be affiliated with a team and do they have a specific form to volunteer
