In honor of the final Harry Potter film*, the IQA will be hosting a Deathly Hallows Expo Match in New York City for all NY area summer club teams players, and fans at Dewitt Clinton Park, home of the 2010 World Cup, at 53rd street and 11th avenue, on Wednesday July 13 from 1-3 PM. The event is free for all teams and spectators and open to the public.
The IQA’s goal in organizing the event is to:
1) Bid a proper farewell to the cinematic tradition that inspired the real-life game of Quidditch.
2) Give local players the opportunity to compete in their favorite sport
3) Let local Harry Potter and Quidditch fans witness the matches and enjoy watching the game
4) Grant local press contacts a chance to document the game as a unique and accelerating aspect of the fandom and begin to build buzz around the coming Fifth Annual World Cup, which is moving to a new venue in New York City this fall: Randall’s Island.
Three teams have already committed to the event and more are currently considering, as well as dozens of local supporters and fans. The IQA will be providing all equipment including brooms, hoops, balls, scoreboards, etc. – players need only bring themselves and/or their teams and should wear a uniform.
Additionally, members of PIT (People’s Improv Theater) who will be announcing at the World Cup this fall will be coming to the event to try out their skills on the megaphone.
World Cup VIP tickets and weekend passes will be randomly awarded to players and spectators, who automatically receive a raffle ticket for attending the event.
