A BU Victory at the Lily and James Memorial Tournament

by Kristina Moy | October 25th, 2011

This past Saturday (October 22nd) was filled with excitement and determination as Boston University, Emerson College, UMass Amherst and Westfield State University took the challenge to climb to the top. Butterbeer, Dragon Eggs, Witches Hats, Snitch Cupcakes, and a food truck were able to satisfy the taste buds of Muggles as they watched some heated matches between these MA teams. Raffle prizes also contributed to the fun.

The pictures certainly highlight the day well enough. All photo credits belong to Ariel Chu.

BU and Emerson brought their World Cup teams to the UMass campus and gave us a sneak peak at what to expect at Randall’s Island. Matches were played round- robin style, with a play-off for 1st and second places and another for 3rd and 4th places. Let’s face it, folks, the games were pretty intense and close.

Scores from Round Robin:

Emerson vs UMass : 110-40 (UMass Snitch catch)
BU vs Westfield: 210 – 00 (BU Snitch catch)
Emerson
vs BU: 30-60 (Emerson Snitch catch)
UMass vs Westfield: 110-0 (UMass Snitch catch)
BU vs UMass: 60-50 (UMass Snitch catch)
Emerson vs Westfield:  270-00  (Emerson Snitch catch)

Scores from Play-offs

BU vs Emerson: 40-30 (BU Snitch catch)
UMass
vs Westfield: 150-10 (UMass Snitch catch)

Trophies were given to BU for 1st place and Emerson for 2nd. And given from the the pictures, it seemed like everyone enjoyed themselves. From average Muggles and Harry Potter enthusiasts to athletes and nerds, the Lily and James Memorial Tournament was  indeed a huge success.  Make sure you keep an eye out for all these teams at the Quidditch World Cup!

I do believe that Emerson won the first match-up with BU, 60-30, not the other way around! :)

I believe that the second BU/Emerson game was 40-30 BU as well

I’ve got that corrected too. Thanks, Jackson!

I can attest to Mister Nadeau’s comment being true.

I believe that is UMass Quidditch teams seeker Chris Chan. I think he borrowed it from a umass snitch who wasn’t playing

ADORE the snitch in the tutu, and the determined girl in blue (I think from Emerson)! Such passion! Now that’s what we all need! Good on ya!

Sorry guys, our record keeping wasn’t perfect. They don’t go toward standing, so no worries. Also, the snitch is Chris Chan, one of umass’ seekers and showman extraordinaire.

    Hi guys,

Thanks very much for pointing out any score corrections; unfortunately I was only a ref at this game but did not have the complete compilation of scores and was going off data I was given.

Mr. Snitch with the tutu is in fact UMass’ Chris Chan, who you’ll be seeing at WC!

And yes, scores are just for show of how things went; it has been mutual that these will not be included in rankings.

    Hope that helped!

It’s perfectly fine. Do you know if any filmed footage will be made available from the tournament?
