It takes more than lost teams and a late start to dampen the spirit of quidditch players.
The Middlebury Classic on Oct. 16, designed to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the beginning of real-life quidditch, didn’t go exactly as planned. Some teams became lost en route to Middlebury College’s campus because many of Vermont’s roads have been rerouted since Hurricane Irene tore through the state earlier this fall.
By the time all teams arrived, the tournament’s formal schedule was abandoned and teams simply played a series of round robin games. Though there was no winner, IQA commissioner Alex Benepe said players from all teams enjoyed themselves.
More information about the tournament, including highlights and photos, will be available on the website shortly.

There may have been some confusion in the number of teams present. There were 8 Middlebury teams, but I believe the total number of teams was closer to 20.

I played in the Classic. Is there any way we can get that kind of atmosphere at the world cup? Short of making people get lost and abandoning schedules that is…

This year’s classic was one of the best tournaments I’ve been to. The camaraderie and intense play dove tailed beautifully. It was a glorious day. Even though there was no winner I really hope they still post the standings!!!
