2011 was a great year for Quidditch, as the IQA traveled to various conventions in the U.S. (from C2E2 in Chicago, IL to LeakyCon in Orlando, FL). By hosting demo matches and presenting at panels, we were able to make many friends and get Muggles to fall in love with the sport. So…we’re doing it again!

If you missed out on one of our convention opportunities in the past, you’ll have lots of time to plan ahead now!
The IQA is currently in the process of planning four great convention appearances for 2012:
- Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2)- April 13-15, North Building at McCormick Place, Chicago IL (http://www.c2e2.com/)
- Ascendio- July 12-15, Portofino Bay Resort, Orlando FL (http://hp2012.org/)
- LeakyCon- August 9-12, Hilton Chicago, Chicago IL (http://www.leakycon.com/)
- New York Comic Con- Oct 11-14, NYC Jacob Javits Center, NYC, NY (http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/)
Sound fun? It is! We are currently looking for convention leaders and volunteers to help out at ALL of the conventions. Convention leaders will be running the show at the conventiona, making sure that panels, demo matches and tabling are all set to go. For demo matches, we are looking for IQA teams that would like to show convention attendees how the game is played. And hey, you earn a day pass for each day you volunteer. Not too bad!
More information will be released as the time gets closer. If you want to help us spread Quidditch across the nation, let us know!
Email Kristina Moy (k.moy@internationalquidditch.org) or Logan Anbinder (logan.anbinder@internationalquidditch.org) with any general questions, volunteer requests, or if you have any ideas for future conventions.

No mention of Comicpalooza (http://comicpalooza.com/) in Houston on May 25-27?

I can certainly take a look to see if we have a contact for Quidditch at Comicpalooza this year. Of course, we would definitely need people who would like to come!

Texas Teams have already written it down as a demo match in Houston. We’ve been doing it for a couple years now.

Can we have some on the west coast please?!? We have a ton of great conventions here, and it would be AMAZING to have quidditch at them. I mean, We only have LA and San Francisco, but I’m sure you can find SOMETHING there for us westies to be awesome at. And who better to show quidditch awesomeness than westies?!? (Northeasterners need not apply

Hi there!
We have a couple that we will be talking to Harrison about that we have in mind, but we’ll need to see if we can get a contact from each first. Maybe one day, we’ll be able to San Diego Comic Con, but for now, we’ll be taking baby steps.
We’re always open to suggestions if you know about any cons in the West!

San Diego Comicon would be great. USC team was talking about going and just doing an expo match on one of the lawns, even if it is unaffiliated with the convention. I am very familiar with the con if you ever need any extra information

I know San Diego will be nearly impossible to get though there is a perfect place for it. There is a grassy area next to the convention center that they use for the line for the main auditorium, giving us not only grass to play on but also a captive audience.
