Quidditch’s Cutest Couples

by Alicia Radford | February 14th, 2012

Love is in the air on the quidditch pitch. With over thirty nominations for Quidditch’s cutest couple, it would be impossible to choose just one! Happy Valentines Day from the IQA – from all of us to you, we hope your day is just as great as these couples’ will be.

First Place – Nominated Three Times

Katie and Jeffrey

The couple I would nominate would be Jeffrey Sherman of the RIT Dark Marks and Katie Pieper of the UR Thestrals.

Admittedly, I’m Jeff’s mom, and kind of a team mom for the Dark Marks, but it has been a joy to watch their relationship from a distance, and see them support each other’s quidditch pursuits.  She is the President of the Thestrals, and he is the Captain of the Dark Marks.  Their personalities are well suited, in that they enjoy their leadership roles with their teams, they exhibit mutual respect, and have a boundless capacity for whimsy and fun! They met in opposition, about a year ago, and have have enjoyed not only the fun they have with each other, but the expanded family of  both teams.  They encourage excellence in each other; they encourage fun; and still have the maturity to be open to utilizing such differences in approach to training/playing as they might incorporate into their teams.  They incorporate what works for them, and discard the rest.  At the last World Cup, he consoled her when her team didn’t perform as she had hoped, and she (and many of her team), stayed on after they were out of competition to root, to ref, to support Jeff and the Dark Marks to the Division 2 finals…Katie with her med-kit in hand, Just In Case.  They are, today, signing a lease for a group house, where a few like-minded quidditch players from both teams will reside next year.  I guess they’ve got it — bad (or pretty good, depending on your point of view).

If parental support for two lovely, smart, fun, compassionate and competitive students counts for anything, I hope you will consider honoring them with the bragging rights of being the Quidditch Couple of the year.

Second Place – Nominated Twice

Brittany and Victor

NYU Nundu senior Brittany “Granger Danger” Holzherr and junior Victor “Krum” Tumambing met last year on the NYU Quidd pitch during the first semester of practice. The attraction was apparent, but Victor was shy and Brittany was hesitant about dating someone younger than she. The next semester (Fall 2011), Krum studied abroad in London, but received a letter from Granger apologizing that things “didn’t work out”– but a later message informed him that she actually did have feelings for him. Looks like Won Won (Weasley) wasn’t all he was cracked up to be. After returning, Krum surprised Granger with a copy of the Deathly Hallows signed by Jo Rowling for her birthday and the two saw the final Potter film as their first date. While technically their first kiss was on a dare at the 2010 NYU Yule Ball after party… before Krum hopped on the train in Penn Station to head back to Long Island after seeing HP, he ran off and back to Granger and confessed “I forgot something” before kissing her. FREAKIN’ PRECIOUS RIGHT? Since then, this very Harry Potter couple have been literally INSEPARABLE, much to the disgust of the rest of NYU Quidd. They’re all over each other and absolutely appallingly adorable. Brittany is now president and captain of the NYU Nundu and Victor serves as treasurer. On February 10th they celebrated their 6 month anniversary with a scavenger hunt organized by Brittany to acquire pieces for their Adventure Book (a la ‘Up’) that she created for him, and he took her out to an incredibly nice dinner. Who knew Hermione would end up with Krum.

Third Place – Nominated Twice

Matt and Morgyn (University of Newcastle and Australian National University)

It was a dark and stormy morning at the inaugural QUAFL Cup, and what had been a long flickering spark online turned in to a flame that brightened everyone’s day. The sexual tension could have been cut with a spoon. Morgyn and Matt, the soon to be appointed president and vice president of the AQA respectively, had more chemistry going on than a science lab. It wasn’t long until Matt, the Novocastrian beater, photographer and all around organisational expert, and Morgyn, the president elect for the ANU Harry Potter Club as well as a fearsome chaser, commenced their official courtship. All we have to say is: You know it’s quidditch when the teams are literally bedding each other and we love it. We love you and wish you all the best Mattgyn.

Best Two-Years-Running Entry

Becca and Mollie

When Becca DuPont joined quidditch in 2010, she just wanted to play a sport as much like football as possible.

When Mollie Lensing joined in 2008, she just wanted to play a competitive sport and support a new organization.

The stars aligned. Angels sang. Trumpets sounded.

You would be hard pressed to find a love as fierce and true as Becca and Mollie. When they were both chasers, Becca would sub in and take to the ground any man, woman, or child who dared to touch her girl. Now that Mollie is a beater, she will relentlessly demolish any opponent who hurts her lady. They are ardently loyal to each other, and unashamed of the love they share. They’re Texas A&M’s favorite lesbians.

Best Unrequited Love

My dearest friends at the International Quidditch headquarters,

I am sure you have met many dreamboats from the Middlebury Quidditch team but none is more dreamy than Andy Hyatt. The women (and men) of the UVM Quidditch team have a fascination with him that cannot be matched by any couple elsewhere in the world of quidditch. Our love for him is so great that many of our team members have his name on their jerseys. This one sided love affair began in the fall of 2009 when Andy referred one of our matches at the World Cup resulting in dreamy looks and giggles from first years about the cute referee. The love affair bursted into an all out obsession with the 2010 World Cup during which members had shirts to spell out his name, cheered shamelessly whenever he did anything (even standing in line for a waffle), and had there been a boombox and window we would be standing there proudly holding the boombox over our heads. Our love for him has never subsided and in 2011 was at its all time peak. He finally learned our names, we became facebook official friends and even have friendship pictures. Then later in 2011 we attended Yule Ball with him (well not with him but we hung out under the mistletoe all night hoping he would need to leave the room at some point and we could finally get an opportunity to seal the deal ;) As you can see the love the UVM Quidditch team has for Andy, though not entirely mutual, is in itself quite beautiful and we know that Romilda Vane’s love potion infused Chocolate Cauldrons couldn’t produce a stronger love.

Our sincerest love,
UVM Quidditch

Most Eligible Bachelors

Brad Armentor

Brad Armentor is truly the most eligible bachelor of the quidditch world. A Southern gentlemen from LSU, Brad’s chasing skills can only be matched by the kindness of his heart. Ladies, he is strong, funny, and romantic. Trust me when I say you won’t regret getting to know him better. If you don’t believe me, just look at his Snow Cup trading card.

Christopher Morris

Meet Christopher Morris. Captain of the University of Texas Quidditch team since its inception, in two short years Chris has led the team from obscurity to being one of the top teams in the world: the number one seed and ninth place finisher at World Cup V. When he’s not working with his tech start-up company or training on the pitch, he enjoys  going country swing-dancing (he knows his way around a dance floor, ladies). He’ll be working for a Fortune 500 financial institution in Chicago this summer, and did we mention? He’s also the chef at his family’s restaurant. And he’s single. Come and get him, girls.

Winter Wonderland

Winter is not just the most eligible bachelor, but she is also the most eligible person. Why? well it all started back in high school after her parents were transferred from Africa. she had a hard time fitting in but eventually made some nerdy artsy friends. Winter was then recruited to be friends  with 3 of the coolest most popular girls in the school. Her artsy friends convinced her to try to take down their clique by staying friends with the popular girls and destroying the clique from the inside. They said that the popular girls were responsible for bullying in the school and that it would be a better place with them not as a clique anymore. Through a series of wacky events Winter ended up destroying their clique but ended up becoming the new most popular girl in the school. Winter lost sight of the original goal of the plan and ended up becoming worse then the original popular girls. After more wacky events she ended up realizing her actions were wrong. She fixed confessed her wrongdoings and the school no longer has any cliques. Everyone is friends.

That’s right, The plot to “Mean Girls” is based off of Winter’s life.

Runners Up

Drew and Nichole

Drew is a sophomore engineering major as well as the president of Texas A&M Quidditch. Nichole is a senior kinesiology major and an assistant coach for Texas A&M Quidditch. I guess you could say they’re a power couple of a top notch quidditch organization.  They’re favorite dating activities would include going on a 5 mile run, bench pressing each other, and if they’re still not tired after that they might wash a few loads of laundry on each others washboard abs.  They are a nerd match made in heaven as Drew displays an avid interest in pokemon and other video game fandoms, and Nichole lives and breathes for the Legend of Zelda.  Drew would say of Nichole that she is the “epitome of the natural state of flowers.” When they go head to head on the quidditch pitch they show no mercy and onlookers would compare the sight to a battle worthy of the Hunger Games. Even though Drew is a Slytherin, Nichole just don’t give a s**t being a Hufflepuff and all, and they complement each other perfectly.  Both are fantastic players and fantastic friends.  They both work hard and contribute so much to Texas A&M Quidditch.  Their relationship is one for the ages!

Porter and Sarah

What do you get when you put a guy who could out-seek Victor Krum and a girl whose looks put veelas to shame together? The best quidcest of all quidcests.  I am speaking of the Northern Arizona University Narwhals’ Porter Marsh and Sarah “Strawberry Shortcake” Takesian. These two freshman vegetarians both stand under 5′ 8″ (5′ 7″ and 5′ respectively), but that doesn’t stop them from tearing up the pitch. Porter is one of the captains and the team’s seeker, while Strawberry is the team’s main starting beater. Since they’re from Flagstaff, they enjoy long walks in the snow and snowball fights, and when they’re not watching Harry Potter, they are regular viewers of Doctor Who and Parks and Rec. Both are EXTREMELY competitive on and off the pitch and will accept almost any challenge thrown at them. They first met at quidditch practice, but really started hanging out after watching Brooms Up in preparation for the World Cup. For the Snow Ball, Porter asked her out by spelling “will you go to the Snow Ball with me?” in her favorite snack, chocolate covered raisins. Living in a snowy landscape does not stop them from melting teammates’ hearts.

Bridget and Kadah

Bridget and Kadah didn’t meet on the pitch. Their romance started from afar but now they are together living in the lovely gainesville with some other Quidditch roomies. You can find bridget on the pitch as a ref and Kadah is always right there by her side supporting her and goal reffing. I asked Bridget one time what it was like to meet Kadah for the first time after talking to her for 7months and growing to love her, and she replied, “It [was] literally the most amazing feeling in the world.” I have also asked Bridget about something funny she remembers with Kadah, and she told me how every time they go out together and they are supposed to look pretty Kadah will get shy and think she isn’t as pretty as some of the other girls. To that Bridget will yell,

“HEY LOOK GUYS THIS IS MY GORGEOUS GIRLFRIEND”

To which Kadah will get ‘mad’ and then continue on without inhibitions. I really think they are one of the cutest couples I have ever seen. If John Smith was a girl and him and Pocahontas were reunited after 7 months of being apart I like to imagine that they would be just like Bridget and Kadah are today.

Doug Christmas Lights Whiston (Kansas University) and Kathleen Richter (Silicon Valley Skrewts)

Dougleen started, as many shenanigans do, on the IQA Westbook (the Facebook group for the Western Region). Both had put their phone numbers up with the request to receive “creepy anonymous texts” from fellow West-ians, and started texting each other New Year’s Eve when they were both unhappy about being with the wrong person. For some unknown but fortuitous reason, Doug decided he liked Kathleen—and oblivious to his in-retrospect-blatantly-obvious interests, she made a poster of him holding a lot of money and asking for a date to the Snow Ball (a poster so funny, about 20 people from the IQA Westbook ended up using it as their profile picture). When they finally met in person at the Snow Cup, all it took was one dance and lots of cuddling to realize they had to be together, even if it meant dealing with living in different states for awhile. Since then, they keep smiling randomly and acting too adorable for words.

Hilary and Matt

Their story: We became facebook friends just hours after the World Cup because of the immense VT-Pride our teams organize for MiddQuid and each other. The Dragons hosted a Yule Ball at GMC and invited MiddQuid and UVMQ to join and even allowed us to spend the night in their rooms. Halfway through the night, Matt and I found ourselves dancing together for a few songs, then after separating for a bit, we wound up dancing together again. At the end of the night he said “well this was nice;” he felt like that was a weird thing to say and we just parted awkwardly. As I went back to my host room I saw Matt again, he lived right next door to where I was staying. Somehow, in the middle of the night, I worked up the courage to leave my name and number at his door. We began texting shortly after, I visited GMC to hang out a couple weeks later, and we started dating over the holiday break. In all seriousness, if it weren’t for quidditch, as an sophomore applied mathematics major at the University of Vermont, I would have never met this sweet, undecided Green Mountain College sophomore. Our schools are 2 hours apart, though I’m currently in England, and we are still going strong. Let’s face it, He’s a Keeper!… and a chaser and a seeker. <3

Sarah and Chris

I’d like to take this moment to nominate Sarah Joseph and Chris Demme of the University of Rochester Thestrals as a Valentine’s Day quidditch couple. The two of them met at the our orientation match. One of the first things that Sarah said to him was “Can you hold my purse?” as she went to grab one of our brooms and play quidditch for the first time. Since then, the two of them have been inseparable, both in and out of quidditch.

The two of them were the first to dive into mud quidditch, covering themselves in tons of mud (as the picture shows). The two have continued to be very active, even through their injuries. When the team attended World Cup IV, both Chris and Sarah took rather hard hits during our games. However, Sarah was worried that she had broken something. Chris accompanied her everywhere until it was confirmed that she did not break her leg. He then drove his car around Manhattan trying to find her to take her home. During another practice in the last school year, Sarah fell on her head and suffered a rather bad concussion. Chris took her to our health services and stood by her, even when Sarah could not remember who he was. Due to this incident, Sarah has not been able to play quidditch this year. This has not stopped her or Chris from attending every practice. Chris has continued to come with the team to compete in tournaments along with Sarah, who has not been able to play, but volunteers to referee and help everywhere we go.

The loyalty and love the two have shown to quidditch and each other is inspiring. I think we all look forward to the day Sarah can continue playing and tackle Chris to the ground again fighting for the quaffle.

Jason and Melissa (LSU)

Jason and Melissa, both seniors on the team, are one of the lucky couples to have met ON the pitch. They met whenever Jason joined the team in the Summer of 2010 and he “instantly knew she was the one.” Cheesy, I know. Given Jason’s reputation in the Quidditch realm and his nickname (“Death”), you would think that he wears the pants in the relationship. This could not be further from the truth. Melissa has Jason whipped like you wouldn’t believe. For example, any time he has a disagreement with someone (something silly like “what’s the best place to eat for Valentine’s Day”), his immediate response is “Let’s ask Melissa what she thinks.” On the pitch they work well together and are a vicious pair for anyone to play against. However, off of the pitch, these two are pretty adorable.

Kayla and Justin

My name is Kayla Cox and my boyfriend is Justin Fecke. We met three and a half years ago when we were both freshmen at Loyola University New Orleans. Justin was not a Harry Potter fan and had never seen any of movies before, but being the huge Harry Potter fan that I am, I had him watch all of the movies when we started dating. Two years into our relationship I decided that I wanted to start a quidditch team at Loyola University. Since Justin is a great boyfriend, he went along with my idea. At first he thought I was completely crazy, but we both quickly fell in love with playing quidditch. Together we petitioned to Student Government Association to make quidditch a club at Loyola, and soon enough quidditch became official! Justin and I bought all of the supplies and spent the next Friday night building quidditch hoops. The turnout for our team was small at first, but we kept advertising and promoting the team, and now that we are in the team’s second year we have a great group of players. I am currently the captain of the team and Justin is the president, but Justin coaches each practice while I do all of the behind the scenes work such as the budget, setting up games with other schools, and getting our team involved in tournaments and the community. We are both extremely competitive and we love challenging each other at practices, but we also work great as team members. He always has my back whenever needed, and I would never have gotten this far with the Loyola quidditch team if I had not had him by my side. Last November we traveled to New York together to attend the Quidditch World Cup. We were just spectators, but we had the best time! It is a memory that neither of us will ever forget. While quidditch did not bring Justin and I together, it is something that together we made possible for our university. We love playing quidditch and we look forward to it each week. Quidditch has definitely shown us that we work great together as a team, and whether we are playing as chasers or beaters, I know I have found a keeper.

Kevin and Sarah

hese two have been together since before I was part of the team, but this picture sums them up. Laughter, commitment (notice the quaffle and bludger dining with them), and just absolute cuteness. These two are always together and despite the height difference, often look into the eyes of one another lovingly. Sarah loves Kevin so much that she even hand made him a broom! It was smoothed out, had bristles, and contained hours of love (mainly the sanding). As they near a year of Quidditch love, it’s no shock that they have the most chemistry when playing at chaser.

Plus, who doesn’t love love that extends beyond Quidditch to Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z? No one, that’s who.

Chelsea and Adam

As early spring rolled around and the weather warmed up, Quidditch was in full swing at Virginia Tech.  Chelsea was a beautiful freshman chaser who had been a member of the Virginia Tech Phoenixes since her first week of school.  Adam, on the other hand, was an avid Harry Potter fan who liked to summon objects to himself with a well executed “Accio!”, but had no idea that muggle quidditch existed.  Adam’s friend Robby discovered the quidditch team at winterfest, quickly became keeper, and lost no time in telling Adam all about it.

One warm spring afternoon in a light drizzling rain, the Phoenixes were holding practice in the grassy lawn outside Chelsea’s dorm.  As the Phoenixes began warming up, Adam arrived for his first practice.  He had no idea what to expect, but soon realized that the Phoenixes were the happiest and most welcoming group he had ever met.  As he was introduced to the team, one girl in particular stood out among the rest.  Chelsea was shy, but welcomed Adam to the team and gave him the most gorgeous smile he had ever seen.  As practice started, the rain picked up and drills soon degenerated into laughing brawls in the mud.  Adam stole glaces at Chelsea whenever he thought he could get away with it, and hoped he would get to be the recipient of another amazing smile.  When practice ended, Adam and Chelsea were both soaking wet and covered in mud, but very happy.  They hugged goodbye and Chelsea gave Adam another one of those smiles.  Adam was hooked.

After that, Adam and Chelsea made sure they attended every quidditch event possible.  They went to more rainy practices, quidkid dinners, dance central parties, and quidditch trips to the river.  Adam used every Phoenix gathering as an opportunity to talk to Chelsea, and quickly realized that quidditch is the most amazing sport ever created.  One night, after a particularly wonderful quidditch dinner, Adam walked Chelsea back to her dorm and kissed her on the lawn where they first met.  They’ve been happy together ever since, and owe it all to quidditch :)

Brady and Jen

This, boys and girls, is a love story
of two captains, both alike in dignity
in fair Utah, where we find this pair.
From cross state rivalry to new competition,
where civil tackles make civil yellow cards.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross’d lovers find peace… off the pitch.

Quidditch brought these two together in a most interesting form. Sir Brady Groves once posted a blog about quidditch on a fine summer’s day, which a Miss Jen Jewell read, and knew, from first read, that she was in love. After some serious private investigating, Jen succeeded in securing her first date with the fine gentleman. They found out that they, indeed, had things in common and agreed to continue this dating practice. But then, he left for the World Cup, and she sat by the Twitter feed, longing for his return, until finally he made his homecoming, and the two found that they shared a true mutual love for the sport. These days, Jen co-captains the Cougar Quidditch team at BYU and Brady co-captains the beloved Utah Crimson Flier team (and they still talk about quidditch incessantly).

Kitty and CJ

I’m Kitty Schaffernoth, and this is CJ Yunger. We are the President and Chaser Captain (respectively) of the Virginia Tech Phoenixes. I’m a sophomore Architecture major and CJ is a senior studying Communications. My passion outside of Quidditch is pokemon, his is photography. Our relationship truly began through Quidditch- He approached me last spring over facebook, asking if he could join the team and play in our first home match. I had no idea who he was, but Quid is about including everyone, so CJ joined the team in early April.

The game was spectacular, and CJ proved to be an incredible seeker. I was impressed with his skills (and thought he was pretty cute, too). But about a week later, he showed up to a Quid party after having gotten a really short haircut. No one recognized him, and I was the unfortunate person to ask him, “So, who are you again? I don’t think we’ve met.”

After that little embarrassment, we became incredibly good friends. We live in different cities, so we got to know each other over the summer over Skype. When the school year began, we began to hang out and talk more and run Quidditch practice together. Our friendship grew and we became incredibly close. Our teammates knew there was something more between us, and were even hoping that, when we won the Turtle Cup, we would share a kiss in the midst of our triumph a la Harry and Ginny in book 6. We kept our friendship going though until late November, when we finally realized that we cared about each other in a “more than friends” kind of way.

We’ve been seeing each other now for almost three months, and we make a solid Quid Power Couple if I dare to say. We challenge each other in great ways, both on and off the pitch. He’s definitely one of my best friends, and he’s made me a better person in the ten months that we’ve known each other. And to think, if I hadn’t let him come to practice, we never would have come this far.

Jenny Brown and Sam Fischgrund (Silicon Valley Skrewts)

Sam and Jenny met one summer at a hoola-hooping event in the San Jose Bay Area. He was wearing a shirt that said “Princeton Quidditch,” so Jenny, who had played an unofficial version of quidditch with her Boy Scout group, approached him asking, “You play quidditch?” He lamented that no, he’d graduated and no longer had a team, to which she responded, “well why don’t you start one?” That was the beginning of the Silicon Valley Skrewts, currently the #1 community quidditch team in the world. While they’ve been off-again on-again for the last few years due to long distance (Jenny goes to Georgetown on the East Coast, Sam lives in California), they finally made it Facebook official just this December—much to the excitement and applause of their fellow Skrewts. Jenny likes building things and flew in all the way from Ghana to join the Skrewts at World Cup V; Sam is allergic to nuts, peanuts, fish and shellfish.

Sarah and James

Sarah and James play for the University of Maryland Flying Wizard Turtles, but they certainly come out of their shells to protect each other on the quidditch pitch! Sarah, a beater, is the team’s vice president. But when she’s not meticulously organizing tournaments, she’s planning the way to her boyfriend’s heart, whether it be via a restaurant date or a well-placed bludger shot to the opposing team’s defense. James, a keeper, is often seen commanding the offense on the pitch much as Admiral Ackbar led the Rebel fleet at the Battle of Endor– a sequence that is near to both players’ hearts, as a Star Wars date was one of the first they shared together.

As terrifying a duo on the pitch as they are adorable off it, Sarah and James are a prime example of the power of quidditch to bring people together– they are, quite literally, a quouple that can’t be beat!

Nicté and Ryan

Nicté Sobrino and Ryan Parsons are a couple from USC and have actually been together longer than Quidditch has existed at their school. They met living across the hall from each other freshman year of college. The two became best friends almost immediately, and after some serious soul searching, Ryan realized that he couldn’t bear to live any longer as only a friend, so Nicté took pity on the poor fellow and made the best decision of her life: to date him. Since then, the two have been inseparable. Ryan, after playing a semester on the newly formed USC Quidditch team their sophomore year, coerced Nicté to coming to a practice, and after seeing her man in all of his chaser glory, she knew she had to pelt him with dodgeballs every chance she could, and the rest was history. They are now both in their junior years at USC and co-captains on the USC Quidditch team. You can often find them playing video games, making memes of Ryan, making music, and talking about random things such as pokemon together.

Aviva Maine and Kevin Oelze
Long before they ever met each other, Kevin and Aviva were separately becoming awesome enough to date each other. Aviva was the only girl on her Varsity Lacrosse team, and Kevin was getting kidnapped to join musical theater. The two of them have been dancing around each other for months, bonding over their mutual appreciation for pirates, musicals, and of course, quidditch.

Emily and Joe

Here, we have Emily and Joe of the San Jose State University O.W.L.S. Emily is the original captain of our team and Joe is one of our most dedicated chasers. I met these two last year and they weren’t together when I first showed up, but their relationship sprouted rather surprisingly. I’m pretty sure they met through a school organization and were good friends before actually getting together. They are my roommates now and I get to witness their love first-hand. I get to be the ultimate third wheel. When they’re not busy talking about Quidditch strategies, they like to cook delicious meals, watch British television, and do crafty things.

Thank you allowing me to nominate Joemily (a name coined by yours truly).

Benny and Rebecca

This Benny Nadeau and Rebecca Nesi! They both go to Emerson College. We met at the beginning of this year through a mutual friend that also played Quidditch. At the World Cup this year, she was Benny’s individual cheerleader, as Emerson brought that dope fan bus to New York. Benny spent all semester bugging Rebecca to play house league this spring and finally she relented. She got drafted to the Jamaica Plain Jaguars last week. They, coincidently, fierce rivals with Benny’s house league team, The Outlaws! They haven’t faced off yet, but Benny is confident that she’ll never beat (in a game or with a bludger) him.

Andrew and Michelle – University of Missouri

These two are super cute. They are always around each other and start dating a few weeks into the Quidditch season. Once after practice, before they were dating, the three of us went to an often empty dining hall. Much to our shock, a bat had gotten into the dining hall and it was no doubt that moment, in Andrew’s heroic running from the bat, that Michelle found her man. When Michelle’s broom was broken in a match against Kansas, Andrew became the definition of valor and scored a goal shortly after to avenge her. They found love on the pitch and it hopefully last an eternity.

Erika and Joe

Erika and Joe are both chasers on Loyola’s quidditch team. They are both sophomore. And, they are perfect for each other. Erika and Joe met for the first time their freshman year here at Loyola. They hung out every so often. The memory Erika often shares of the first time she actually spent time with Joe involves his consumption of a few too many appletinis. According to Erika, she developed a little crush on him that year, but didn’t do to much about it. Finally, in September of this school year, a friend and I decided that we needed to make Erika and Joe a thing (Jerika as I call them now). We arranged quality hang out times and forced them to sit next to each other during movies. I had a feeling they would be wonderful together. It took a little pushing since Joe isn’t the most outgoing of guys and Erika might be somewhat afraid of commitment, but he finally asked her out. Ever since then, they’ve been Jerika: inseparable yet not overbearingly so. Of course, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. They are captains of rival intramural teams here at Loyola Quidditch. There have been many games when their teammates have asked them to kiss the other as a distraction. We’re still working on getting that to happen. As I forced them to hang out and pushed Erika to talk to Joe, I like to claim 50% of making Jerika happen. But, you know what, it wasn’t me that brought them together. It was quidditch and, most importantly, them. Quidditch introduced them and they made it happen. They’ve also done a hell of a job maintaining the relationship. So thanks to quidditch for bringing all the Jerika’s of the world together! I love Jerika! Keep it up!

Craig and Sarah

Silicon Valley Skrewts Craig Kaplan and Sarah Dondysh are the couple on the team that’s been together the longest (since 2009!).  When Craig first joined the team last summer as a chaser/seeker, Sarah would sit on the sidelines and watch, but it wasn’t long before she jumped onto the field as a beater.  They supposedly met playing the muggle sport of bowling, but luckily they have since realized that a magical relationship like theirs needs a magical sport counterpart.  The couple is very cute together, and a pair to be reckoned with, on and off the field.

Shannon and Oscar

Me (Shannon Culligan) and my beau, Oscar Feliciano, have been together since 2 semesters ago. It truly was love at first snitch when he caught the bludger that fateful April day. Oscar, the star chaser of the SUNY Geneseo Quidditch team, proudly wears number 420, our anniversary date. It’s an amazing experience watching Oscar rally his teammates in scrimmages and tournaments alike. He is also the ringleader for the team’s pump-up chant at the beginning of a match. I can think of nothing more enjoyable than sitting on the sidelines rooting for my man!

Alex and Anna

I would like to take this opportunity to nominate the cutest Quidcest I know… Alex Benepe and Anna Brisbin.

Most of the quidditch qorld already knows who this couple is, but I figured I would tell you about them anyway. For those who remain unaware, I’m talking about the Commissioner of Quidditch himself and Barstool Sport’s “Hottest Girl in Quidditch.” There’s no better way to say it than Alex Benepe caught the ultimate snitch. The pair met at New York University’s Relay for Life on April 16, 2011 at a Quidditch demonstration run by the NYU Nundu, of which Brisbin is a star beater. Ever since the demo, the pair have been inseparable. Their first date was a tour of the Met, given by Mr. Benepe himself, followed by a romantic stroll through Central Park.

After months of casual dating, Anna Brisbin decided to take matters into her own hands. After Benepe’s impressive turn as a snitch during the Alumni game at this year’s World Cup, Brisbin asked Benepe to be her boyfriend. He literally had to jump through hoops to get her to ask him out! Nowadays the adorable couple can be seen at various quidditch related events or cuddling through Benepe’s personal favorite film genre: horror.

I’m so happy that Brady and Jen made this list. They totally deserve it. Here’s the photo that should be up on there:

<3 Love you Matt! And it's true, that photo should TOTALLY be there. We don't have any cute pictures of us, because we're too busy playing Quidditch all of the time.
