The IQA is excited to announce a new event initiated by Connor Loch called “Get Fit for Quidditch!”. The editorial department had a chance to ask Connor about this exciting event, and how you can participate. Get Fit for Quidditch is a free, 10 week-long event, open to anyone who wants to be involved: all you have to do is sign up!

Creator and organizer Connor Loch explains that Get Fit for Quidditch “started on a personal desire I had to both lose weight (for Quidditch) as well as donate money to the IQA (something I’ve wanted to do at least once for a long time). That’s when I decided to combine the two: make an event that would establish a support community for those that wanted to get fit (no matter how many people actually attended) as well as helping me decide how much to donate!”

The basics of the event are as follows:  For every person who loses 20 lbs by July 8th, Connor will donate $5. Half that ammount ($2.50) will be donated for every 10 lbs. Connor has expanded the event to included anyone with a fitness goal/challenge.  To register a non-weight-loss goal, email Connor with your goal at getfitforquidditch@gmail.com (some ideas: muscle/weight gain, completing a 5k, etc) and he will include your goal in the final count. People participate however they can to get fit; there are no strict rules to this!

Connor further noted that “because I am just out of college and not terribly rich, but still dedicated to donating, I will be maxing out my first donation at 500$. If there happens to be more than 100 people that have completed their goal by July 8th, I will attempt to donate that additional amount, but it will be done much later in the year.”

Connor is also excited to report that, as the event is gaining popularity on Facebook, people have been joining even if they don’t have a goal in mind. “Because it has grown into such a huge and awesome support group for everyone to help each other reach their goals and Get Fit for Quidditch” Connor continues, it represents “just the type of family the Quidditch community has become!”

You can join or just follow along by clicking the below link. In the “information” section, there a lot of helpful links to get you started on getting fit, including a Google doc progress spreadsheet and ideas for workouts and recipes.

Good luck to everyone!

Connor probably should have either put a cap on his donation limit, or realized just how many people would get involved with this. His wallet is going to HURT.
