SW Regional Voting Begins, Regional Championship Committees to be Formed

by Eric Andres | June 20th, 2012

Since the announcement of the location of the southern regional, as well as the beginning of voting for the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and Western regionals on Saturday, we have received four completed bid packages for the Southwest. Voting will now take place for this region as well. The World Cup Organizing Team has reviewed the bids and they are now up for an official member team vote to choose the locations of the IQA’s 2012-2013 regional championships for the Southwest:

Southwest Regional locations

Voting

Due to the delay in the process for the southwest, the schedule for voting for this region only has been pushed back four days. Official member captains will receive an email with a link to vote. Each official member team receives one vote. Voting for the Southwest only will close at 11:59pm EST on Wednesday, June 27. Voting for all other regions will close at 11:59pm EST on Saturday, June 23.

Tournament Dates

Dates for each regional championship will be chosen after we have spoken with the selected location and discussed venue availability.

Regional Championship Committees

We are also pleased to introduce how regional championships will be organized. Each regional championship will have a Regional Championship Committee (RCC) to plan and execute their region’s tournament. Each RCC will be comprised of members of the quidditch community in their region. RCC members can be players, IQA staff, or supporters. Due to the nature of some positions, those staff people will be unable to play in the tournament. The RCCs will be formed and led by the Regional Directors. Some RDs will fill the role of tournament director, while others will simply oversee the RCC.

If the location selected is a city bid (from a visitors bureau, sports authority, etc.), the RCC will work alongside the city to run the event. If the location selected is a non-city bid (from a team, region, player, etc.), those who placed the bid are encouraged to apply for the RCC. More information on how to apply for your region’s RCC will be announced by each RD following the selection and announcement of each regional location.

We want to thank the teams for their patience during the process of choosing regional championships  locations, and we want to thank our hard working staff for making all of this possible.

Also, do you mean that all members of the RCCs will not be allowed to play, or just certain members? I think you’re going to have a hard time getting people to throw away spots on their teams just so they can plan a tournament, if all RCC members can’t play.

Only certain positions (like gameplay), that we don’t want to spark rumors of any foul play, etc. However, each RCC may be different, depending on the opinion of the RD.
