Landmark Dates & Events in IQA History

October 9, 2005 – first ever real-life Quidditch game at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT. Read more.

November 11, 2007 – First official World Cup marks the first intercollegiate match in history between Middlebury College and Vassar College, from Poughkeepsie, NY. Read more

March 22-29, 2008 - Middlebury Quidditch road trip to six colleges creates a press storm that leads hundreds of teams to start nationally. Watch footage here.

October 23, 2008 – second World Cup at Middlebury features 12 colleges from around North America and the first traveling international team, McGill University from Montreal, Canada. Watch video here.

April 20, 2009 - Patriot’s Day Games in Boston defines the city as a new Quidditch epicenter. Watch footage here.

October 25, 2009 – 21 college teams travel to Middlebury for the third annual World Cup in front of 2,000 spectators. Read more and here an audio clip here.

March 10, 2010 – The International Quidditch Association is incorporated in Vermont with a board of ten directors from around the country.

May 30, 2010 – The first meeting of the IQA Board of Directors in New York City is accompanied by an expo match for 8 teams and 80 local children in Central Park. Read more.

November 13-14, 2010 – 43 colleges and 3 high schools compete before 15,000 spectators and over 40 international media outlets at the fourth World Cup. Read more.

February 16, 2011 – University of Vaasa from Finland and Vassar College compete in the first intercontinental, transatlantic Quidditch match in history. Read more.

March 18-20, 2011 – Six schools compete in the first IQA-sponsored Regional Tournament, the Swamp Cup in Gainesville FL. Read more.

April 2-3, 2011 – Twelve schools compete in the first IQA-sponsored west coast event, the Western Cup in Los Angelese, CA. Read more.

April 9, 2011 – six schools compete in the first IQA-sponsored southwest event, the Texas Classic, in Lubbock, TX. Read more.

May 1, 2011 – Thirteen schools compete in the IQA Northeast Regional, The Empire Classic, in Hempstead, NY. Read more.
