Tec Quidditch is based inside the university “Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM)” in Monterrey, a city of Nuevo Leon, México. Tec Quidditch was founded in August 2011, when the founder, Antonio Cruz, integrated the main board for Quidditch with Antonio Miguel as Vice-President, Palmira Obeso as General Coordinator and Alberto Rodríguez as treasurer. Once the board was assembled, the Quidditch club was officially recognized at ITESM as a sport club and a official student organization. Tec Quidditch gets money by every mean possible. On november 2011, the quidditch club organized contest called “The Biggest Potterhead” (a contest of knowledge about the Potter universe) in order to get money for quidditch equipment. On march 2012, the quidditch club organized the first quidditch tournament in Monterrey, N.L. MX. We also sell t-shirts of popular culture, we make raffles and we also sell krispy kreme doughnuts in our campus.
The 1st. Quidditch Tournament at Tec de Monterrey.
Last semester (Jan-May '12), when we announced the first quidditch tournament at Tec de Monterrey, an article appeared in the main city paper called “EL NORTE”, that made awareness of the club in the college, but also about quidditch as an international sport. That article helped a lot to make publicity about the tournament, and when the date came, four teams attended to the call. During the tournament, we first made a training session in order to teach new players how to play, the basic rules, etc. and after that, the tournament began. We counted with a head referee and a snitch referee for every game, and at the end, every participant were happy and satisfied with the game. In total, three papers made coverage of the tournament: two school-based and “EL NORTE”. Later, the group was nominated to two “Golden Apples”, a very important award for student organizations in our college. Tec Quidditch won both and they were given to the group for being the “Revelation Student Organization of the Semester” and for made the “Revelation Event of the Semester”.
