UVic Quidditch was started November 2010 when Anna Jessop and Sam McKee from the Community ResLife team put together a quidditch match as a part of a Harry Potter weekend to celebrate the first Deathly Hallows movie. After some intense googling, the IQA was discovered and it was decided that we’d hold weekly quidditch matches and start a club. That first semester of the UVic quidditch club was small, muddy and brilliant. The club has since grown to an all-weather, university supported club of ~50 players that is known on campus for providing hours of enjoyment and distraction for those studying nearby.
This Year the UVic Quidditch Club played its first official match ever at the World Cup V in New York City. 12 of our players travelled across the continent to play against Emerson, Richmond, Ohio and Penn.
Our current goal is to expand the presence of Quidditch in Western Canada.
Captains: Anna Jessop, Steven Foster, and Katie Hikida

UVic Quidditch team and the World Cup V in NYC:
01/12/2012
Things were amazing in New York. If anything, saw a HUGE transformation of our team. Two days of touring new york and seeing the sights, we had a huge group meeting making sure everyone was level headed and working as a team, and then 2 days of early to rise late to bed, playing our hearts out quidditch. We lost all our games and so didnt advance but each game we got progressively better and better, with the help of observing and playing, advice from our opponents and Canadian teams who would watch and cheer on the sidelines, and strategizing in between games.
Our first game at the cup was our first game against another team EVER. It was against Emerson, and we lost 100-0, emerson had an overall ranking of 4th place among the international quidditch association and they pick their world cup team amongst a league of 300 players. It was a tough game and we still had to learn a few things regarding fouls, ref signals, boundaries, and general strategy. We went off the field in shock at how intense the full world of quidditch was and exhausted from the first push of the weekend,
Second game was against Ohio State, where our keeper Steven Foster scored our first goal. The game was short but we played better and with less anxiety. Our seeker Alex Murray caught the snitch!
Third game was in the evening and we flipped a coin to see who would play to sun setting. Richmond won the toss and we played, this time having thought out more positioning, passing and our beaters had a mini training sesh prior to our game warmup. We lost 100-20 with two goals scored by our chasers Alex Mcleod and John Robertson.
Sunday morning was a hectic mess getting to randalls island on time. We were staying in a hotel in queens and its about an hour and half travel time, because we would go straight from the championships in the evening to the airport we had to bring all our gear with us. Running late we ended up taking a cab onto the island and got onto the field just before we couldve been forfeited. This game was the last of our single elimination games and so our last official game at the cup. We played against Penn State and though we were without a warmup and flustered from running to get there, we played our absolute best. No penalties for once, some great strategy with chasers and beaters, and 3 goals making a score of 150-30. Two from Josh Stelting and one from Alex Mcleod. Our cheers at the end of the game were louder than Penn States and the teams of UOttawa, Carleton, Ryerson and McGill came out to the field to cheer and dance with us.
The weekend also included a Canada versus USA dodgeball match, a McGill versus Rest of Canada scrimmage to help McGill warmup for their game, concerts from Wizard Rock (Wrock) bands, and other enteratainment from semi-celebreties from the potter/quidditch world. The Championships were held in Icahn Stadium. Though every team was determined to beat them, Middlebury College won the Cup, for the fifth time in a row.

Best start of a Season.
10/22/2011
The first week of Fall 2011 at UVic was as intense as ever. After a breif meeting over drinks, the seniors plotted the semester. Orientation, Presidents Day, Clubs Days, Thunderfest, Rookie Party, World Cup.
Orientation gave each tour group passing through the campus a chance to play Quidditch. Test out the sport and the feel of a broom between your legs. Presidents Day continued the chaos as students came for free food and found themselves flying across the field. Clubs Days we gathered 200 names onto our emailing list. Thunderfest we seeked throughout the games and fun, the snitch running in and out between students enjoying the Vikes Rec festivities.
Rookie Party brought together approximately 30 new members dressed to the nine and divided into hogwarts houses and led by their intrepid 8 senior members. The first Victoria quidditch photo- scavenger hunt took place. Quaffle Waffles were ate, and drinks were bought. Stuff got crazy, and the team bonded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X610a6x-ZPk
